Diversity Team Checklist
Do’s
Do actively reach out to underrepresented groups in the local region. Introduce them to diversity bursary program.
Do ensure the Code of Conduct is visible and enforced.
Do provide a clear reporting mechanism for harassment or discrimination.
Do offer pronouns and local language support on name badges. (Registration desk computer often doesn’t have multi language fonts available)
Do organize a “Newcomers Session” to welcome first-time attendees.
Do listen to feedback from marginalized groups and act on it (document it, report it, and follow up).
Don’ts
Don’t tokenize individuals; treat everyone as a valued contributor.
Don’t assume gender or pronouns; ask or use neutral language.
Don’t ignore microaggressions; address them to maintain a welcoming environment.
Don’t make diversity an afterthought; integrate it into all planning stages.
Don’t rely solely on minority groups to do the work of educating others on diversity.
